Beschreibung

Apistogramma macmasteri reaches about 5-6 cm. Males are larger and more colorful than females, with red and blue spots on the dorsal and caudal fins. Females are duller but have a black lateral spot. It is territorial but generally peaceful outside breeding. It prefers soft, acidic water with dense vegetation and hiding places. Its breeding behavior is fascinating, with the female tending eggs while the male defends the territory.

Pflegehinweise

Keep in a tank of at least 60 liters for a pair. Water should be soft (GH 2-10, KH 1-5) and acidic (pH 5.5-7.0) with a temperature of 24-28°C. Provide plenty of hiding places (roots, leaf litter, clay pots). Feed a varied diet: brine shrimp, daphnia, small pellets. It is peaceful but territorial during breeding. Avoid very active or large fish. A species tank is recommended for breeding.
