Briareum sp. is an encrusting soft coral forming a continuous mat on rocks. Its polyps are green, very numerous, and open during the day. It grows quickly under good conditions. It is photosynthetic but appreciates phytoplankton feeding. It can become invasive if not controlled. Its green color is due to specific pigments and zooxanthellae. It is often confused with other Briareum but is distinguished by its bright hue.

This coral is very tolerant and suitable for beginners. Moderate to intense lighting is sufficient, with moderate flow. Temperature 22-28°C, pH 8.1-8.4, salinity 1.023-1.025. It tolerates slightly elevated nutrient levels but prefers nitrates <20 ppm. Calcium and magnesium should be kept within marine norms. It can be fed liquid phytoplankton. Beware of its rapid growth: it can overgrow other corals. Trim regularly to contain it. It propagates by fragmentation or by detaching fragments.
