The dorsal and caudal fins are adorned with ocellated patterns. It is an ambush predator that hunts by stealth. In the aquarium, it is very territorial, especially towards conspecifics. It is best kept alone or as a pair in a species-specific tank. Its active behavior and need for hiding places make it a fascinating fish for experienced aquarists.
