Discosoma nummiforme has a perfectly round disc, often with slightly wavy edges. Its color is usually brown, gray, or green, sometimes with spots. The disc can reach 8 cm in diameter. The mouth is central and small. It attaches firmly to rocks. It reproduces by division. In aquariums, it often remains stationary. It tolerates a wide range of parameters.

Parameters similar to Discosoma sanctithomae: temperature 24-27°C, pH 8.1-8.4, salinity 1.023-1.025. Low to moderate light, low flow. Calcium 400-450 ppm, magnesium 1200-1350 ppm. It feeds through photosynthesis and accepts meaty foods. A minimum tank volume of 40 liters is advised. It is peaceful but may release digestive filaments. Avoid strong currents. It is sensitive to high nitrates (>20 ppm).
