The rummy-nose tetra is recognizable by its bright red head and black-and-white striped tail.
Beschreibung
It reaches about 5 cm. The head is red, the body silvery, and the caudal fin has black and white bands. A very active schooling fish. Sensitive to water quality: polluted water causes the red to fade. Peaceful and ideal in a school.

The rummy-nose tetra inhabits clear, acidic waters of the Rio Negro and its tributaries. It prefers calm areas with dense vegetation and a leaf-litter bottom.

Temperature 24–28°C, pH 5.5–7.0, low hardness. A minimum 80-liter tank for a school of 10. Water must be very clean with efficient filtration. Dense planting and moderate lighting. Diet: small live or frozen foods, quality flakes. Compatible with other small peaceful fish. Avoid stressful tankmates.
