Hypancistrus sp. L174 reaches 8-10 cm. Its body is ventrally flattened, with a sucker mouth. The coloration is white to cream with irregular vertical black stripes, reminiscent of a zebra. The fins are broad and patterned. It is a nocturnal fish that spends the day hidden in crevices. It is very peaceful and can coexist with similarly sized fish. It feeds mainly on invertebrates and plant matter. In the aquarium, it appreciates hiding places and moderate current. Breeding is difficult in captivity.
