Beschreibung
This small fish (8-10 cm) has an elongated, laterally compressed body with a sucker mouth. Its coloration is unique: vertical black and white bands over the entire body and fins. Males have more developed odontodes (small spines) on the opercles and pectoral fins. It is nocturnal and shy, requiring many hiding places. It is territorial with conspecifics but can coexist with other peaceful species. Breeding in aquariums is difficult and rare.

A minimum 80-liter tank is needed for a pair, with strong current and highly oxygenated water. The decor should include smooth rocks, caves, and driftwood. Parameters must be stable: temperature 26-30°C, pH 6.0-7.0, GH 2-10°dGH, KH 1-5°dKH. It is sensitive to nitrates (max 10 mg/L) and phosphates (max 0.2 mg/L). Its diet is carnivorous: bloodworms, brine shrimp, protein-based tablets. Do not keep with aggressive or overly large fish. Frequent water changes (30% weekly) are essential.
