The Serpae tetra (Hyphessobrycon eques) is a characid from South America. It reaches about 4 cm. Its body is orange-red with a black diamond-shaped spot on the caudal peduncle. Fins are often tinged with red. It is a schooling fish that must be kept in groups of at least 6. Peaceful but may be slightly fin-nippy with long-finned fish. It enjoys a planted tank with subdued lighting.
