Lobophyllia costata forms massive colonies with lobes marked by longitudinal ribs. Polyps are fleshy and often brown, green or red. It is aggressive and can extend filaments. Growth is moderate. It feeds through photosynthesis and prey capture. It is valued for its unique ribbed texture and hardiness.
