Small shell-dwelling cichlid with a more elongated body than other Neolamprologus.
Beschreibung
Neolamprologus hecqui reaches 7 cm. It has a slender body and a low dorsal fin. It shares the shell-dwelling lifestyle with brevis and ocellatus but is less common in the hobby. Its coloration is brownish-silver with bluish reflections. It is territorial but less aggressive than ocellatus. Spawning occurs in the shell, with parents caring for the fry. It prefers larger shells. This species is ideal for a Lake Tanganyika biotope tank.

Temperature 24-26°C, pH 8-9, GH 10-20, KH 10-20. Sandy substrate and medium to large shells. Carnivorous diet: small crustaceans, larvae, pellets. A pair needs at least 50 liters. Group possible in a large tank (200L+). Compatible with other peaceful Tanganyikan cichlids. Avoid overly active fish. Maintain well-oxygenated water. Weekly water changes are recommended. Sensitive to high nitrates.
