The Four-spine cichlid is distinguished by its four spines on the anal fin. It is a territorial cichlid but less aggressive than some of its congeners.
Beschreibung
This fish has an elongated body and a variable coloration from beige to gray with bluish reflections. It has four distinctive spines on the anal fin, hence its name. Males are slightly larger and more colorful than females. It lives in pairs or small groups in the rocky areas of Lake Tanganyika. Its behavior is territorial but it tolerates other species of similar size. It feeds mainly on small invertebrates and zooplankton. Adult size is about 10-12 cm.

Water parameters: temperature 24-26°C, pH 7.8-9.0, GH 10-20, KH 10-20. Efficient filtration and weekly water changes are necessary. Feed a carnivorous diet: brine shrimp, daphnia, bloodworms, and cichlid pellets. A tank of at least 120 liters is recommended for a pair. Decorate with rocks and sand to create hiding places. It can coexist with other Tanganyikan cichlids of comparable size, but avoid very small species. Breeding occurs on a rocky substrate, with both parents caring for eggs and fry. Maintain stable water parameters to avoid stress.
