A fleshy lobed soft coral, very common in reef aquariums. It forms large mushroom-shaped colonies.
Beschreibung
Sarcophyton trocheliophorum has a thick stalk and a lobed capitulum that can reach 50 cm. Its surface is wrinkled and may show beige, brown or green hues. It retracts its polyps at night and extends them during the day for photosynthesis. It produces toxins (sarcophytines) that inhibit the growth of nearby corals. This is a robust and tolerant species, ideal for beginners. It can reproduce by natural fragmentation or budding.

Maintain a temperature of 24-28°C, pH 8.1-8.4 and salinity 1.023-1.025. Moderate lighting (PAR 50-100) is sufficient, but it tolerates stronger light. Water flow should be low to moderate to avoid tearing tissues. It feeds mainly through photosynthesis but accepts liquid coral foods. A minimum tank volume of 100 liters is recommended. Avoid placing it too close to other corals due to its toxins. It is compatible with most peaceful fish and invertebrates.
