Beschreibung

Polyps reach up to 2 cm in diameter and are bright green to olive green, sometimes with brown or yellow hues. They form dense mats connected by a common coenenchyme. Tentacles are short and arranged in two circles. This species is photosynthetic via its zooxanthellae and extends polyps during the day. No obvious sexual dimorphism.

This soft coral is found on shallow reefs of the Caribbean Sea, often on rocky substrates or coral rubble. It forms dense colonies that cover large areas, in clear, well-lit waters. It is typically encountered at depths between 1 and 20 meters.

Minimum tank size: 40 liters. Parameters: temperature 24-28°C, pH 8.1-8.4, salinity 1.023-1.025, nitrates < 20 mg/L, phosphates < 0.1 mg/L. Lighting moderate to intense, flow moderate. Feeds mainly through photosynthesis but may accept plankton. Beware of stinging tentacles that can damage neighboring corals. Easy to propagate by fragmentation.
