Temminck's Ancistrus is an armored herbivorous catfish, known for its oral tentacles in males. It is very effective at cleaning algae in the aquarium.
Description
This fish has a flattened, armored body, brown to olive with light spots. Males develop tentacles (barbels) on the snout, used during displays. The mouth is a sucker, adapted for grazing algae. The fins are broad and rounded. It is mainly nocturnal but can be active during the day if the tank is well planted. It is territorial, especially among males. It hides in caves or under roots. It can be kept as a pair or harem.

Care notes
A tank of at least 100L is recommended for a pair. Provide hiding places (caves, driftwood). Temperature 23–28°C, pH 6.5–7.5, GH 5–15. Diet: algae wafers, blanched vegetables (zucchini, cucumber), and occasional worms. They are peaceful but can be territorial with other loricariids. Strong filtration is needed, but current should be moderate. Weekly water changes of 20–30%. Breeding occurs in a cave; the male guards the eggs until hatching.
