Description
Aponogeton ulvaceus is a plant with a tuberous rhizome. Its leaves are broad, wavy, soft green, reaching up to 50 cm in length. They are translucent and very decorative. The plant produces a flower stalk with white flowers. It grows quickly under optimal conditions. Like A. crispus, it may enter a dormant period. It is ideal as a background plant in large aquariums.

This species is endemic to Madagascar, where it grows in calm, shallow waters of rivers and lakes, on sandy or muddy bottoms. The water is generally soft and acidic, with tropical temperatures. It forms large rosettes of wavy leaves.

Care notes
Similar to A. crispus: moderate to intense lighting, rich substrate, soft to moderately hard water, pH 6.0-7.5, temperature 22-28°C. Enjoys CO2 and fertilizers. A winter dormant period is recommended. Beware of burrowing fish that may uproot the tuber. Not demanding but performs best with regular care.
