Description

Aulonocara stuartgranti, commonly known as Stuartgranti peacock, is a cichlid endemic to Lake Malawi. Males display a brilliant coloration combining metallic blue, golden yellow, and sometimes orange-red, while females are duller, gray-brown. This fish reaches a size of 12-15 cm. It inhabits rocky areas where it feeds on small invertebrates and plankton. In the aquarium, it requires hard, alkaline water typical of the African rift lakes.

Care notes

Maintain hard water (GH 10-20, KH 8-12) with a pH of 7.8-8.6 and temperature 24-28°C. A tank of at least 200 liters is recommended with rocks and hiding places. Perform 20-30% weekly water changes. Feed with African cichlid pellets, supplemented with brine shrimp or bloodworms. Avoid overly aggressive tankmates.
