Small freshwater shrimp endemic to Lake Poso, recognizable by its dark spots on a light background. Threatened by habitat degradation.
Description
Caridina spinata reaches up to 2.5 cm. Its translucent body is covered with irregular black or brown spots. The antennae are long and thin. It is a benthic species that feeds on biofilm and microorganisms. It lives in groups in rocky and vegetated areas of the lake. Reproduction is oviparous, with eggs carried under the female's abdomen. Its very restricted range makes it vulnerable to introduced species.

Care notes
Keep in an aquarium of at least 20 liters, well planted with hiding places. Water should be soft to moderately hard (GH 4-8, KH 1-4) with a pH of 6.5-7.5. Ideal temperature is 24-28 °C. Nitrates should not exceed 20 mg/L, phosphates 0.5 mg/L. Diet: shrimp pellets, blanched vegetables, biofilm. Peaceful species, compatible with other small shrimp and non-predatory fish. Avoid large or aggressive fish. Regular water changes and gentle filtration.
