Hardy and active tetra, recognizable by its black caudal spot and red fins, but can be a fin-nipper.
Description
The Buenos Aires tetra has a silver body with a black spot on the caudal peduncle and red fins. It reaches up to 7 cm. It is a very active fish that schools throughout the water column. It is generally peaceful but may nip the long fins of slow or sail-finned fish. It is very hardy and tolerates a wide range of parameters. It enjoys a planted aquarium with swimming space. Males are more colorful than females.

Care notes
Minimum 100 L aquarium for a group of 6–8. Neutral to slightly alkaline water (pH 6.0–8.0, GH 5–20, KH 3–15) at 18–28 °C. Tolerates cooler temperatures than other tetras. Omnivorous: flakes, pellets, vegetable matter, worms. Avoid tankmates with long fins (guppies, bettas). Prefer robust, fast fish. Weekly water changes of 25%. Can be kept in outdoor ponds in summer in temperate regions.
