The Dwarf Loach is a small, endangered freshwater fish endemic to the Mekong basin in Thailand. It is highly valued in the aquarium hobby for its small size and schooling behavior.
Description
This fish reaches only 5-6 cm in adulthood. Its body is elongated and slightly laterally compressed, with a silvery to beige base color. It has a series of dark vertical bars on the flanks, sometimes broken. The caudal fin is slightly forked. It has four pairs of barbels. It is a very active species that must live in groups of at least 5 individuals. In the wild, it inhabits clear, well-oxygenated waters. In the aquarium, it is peaceful and can coexist with other small species.

Care notes
A minimum tank size of 60 liters is sufficient for a group of 5-6 dwarf loaches. Temperature should be 24-28°C, pH 6.5-7.5, GH 5-12. Fine sand substrate is preferable to protect their barbels. Provide dense plants, driftwood, and rocks for hiding. Moderate water flow is appreciated. They are omnivorous: micro-pellets, frozen and live foods. Avoid large or aggressive fish. Regular water changes are essential as they are sensitive to nitrates. Breeding in captivity is rare.
