Astraea tecta has a thick conical shell, often with spiral ridges and tubercles. Its coloration ranges from gray to light brown, sometimes with darker patterns. Adults reach about 2–3 cm in diameter. It is primarily nocturnal, hiding in crevices during the day. Sexual dimorphism is not externally obvious.

Care notes

Keep in an aquarium of at least 40 L with live rock and sandy substrate. Parameters: temperature 22-28°C, pH 8.1-8.4, salinity 1.023-1.025. It feeds on algae and biofilm; supplement with dried seaweed if needed. Peaceful species compatible with all reef fish and invertebrates. Avoid predators such as crabs or pufferfish. Be cautious with copper-based medications.
