Siamese fighting fish
Betta splendens
Betta splendens grows 6-7 cm. Males have long flowing fins in bright colors (red, blue, green, white). Females are smaller and duller. It has a labyrinth organ allowing it to breathe atmospheric air. It is territorial and aggressive towards other males. It can coexist with other peaceful species in a community tank. Breeding involves the male building a bubble nest.

Care
Care notes
A minimum 20-liter aquarium for a single male, or 60 liters for a pair with other fish. Temperature 26-30°C, pH 6.0-7.5, low hardness. A planted setup with hiding spots and low current is ideal. Carnivorous diet: pellets, bloodworms, brine shrimp. Do not keep two males together. Compatible with small peaceful fish (tetras, corydoras). Avoid long-finned or aggressive species.
