Clown loach
Botia macracantha
Botia macracantha can reach 30 cm in aquariums. Its body is elongated and laterally compressed. Coloration is bright orange with three broad vertical black bands. The fins are yellow with black. The mouth is downward-facing with four pairs of barbels. It is a gregarious fish that lives in groups. It is active during the day and likes to dig in the substrate. It can produce audible clicking sounds. It is sensitive to diseases if water quality is poor.

Care
Care notes
A tank of at least 300 L is necessary for a group of 5-6 individuals. Water should be well oxygenated, pH 6.5-7.5, GH 5-12, temperature 25-30°C. Moderate current is appreciated. Provide hiding places (rocks, roots, pipes). Omnivorous: give pellets, worms, vegetables. Avoid high nitrates. Sensitive to ich. Compatible with peaceful medium-sized fish. Beware of small fish that might be intimidated.
