Ecsenius yaeyamaensis grows up to 4 cm. Its body is elongated, dark brown with small light spots on the sides. It has tentacles above the eyes and a long dorsal fin. It lives in shallow coral reef areas, hiding in crevices. It feeds on algae and small invertebrates. It is a shy and territorial fish. Its restricted distribution makes it less common in the aquarium trade.

Care notes

This blenny requires an aquarium of at least 40 liters with plenty of hiding places. Temperature 24-28°C, pH 8.1-8.4. Herbivorous diet: algae, nori, spirulina. It may be difficult to acclimate. A lid is necessary. Sensitive to parameter changes. Keep water stable and clean. Can coexist with other peaceful fish. Avoid aggressive food competitors.
