Favia stelligera forms massive, often encrusting or dome-shaped colonies. Polyps are small and very numerous, giving a starry appearance. Color is usually brown, gray or beige, sometimes with greenish hues. Septa are well marked and radiating. It is an extremely hardy species, ideal for beginners. Growth is slow but continuous.
