This tetra reaches about 4 cm. Its body is elongated, silvery, with a thick, clearly visible black stripe from snout to caudal fin. The fins are transparent. It resembles Hemigrammus marginatus but the stripe is wider and continuous. It is very active and swims in tight schools. It is a peaceful and hardy fish, ideal for community aquariums.

Care notes

Keep in groups of at least 6 in a 60-liter tank. Water should be soft to moderately hard (GH 2-15), pH 5.5-7.5, temperature 22-28°C. Moderate filtration and subdued lighting are suitable. Omnivorous, accepts flakes, brine shrimp, daphnia. Enjoys a planted aquarium with open swimming areas. Compatible with other small tetras, corydoras, rasboras. Avoid aggressive fish. Breeding is possible in soft acidic water.
