This cichlid reaches 10 cm in length, with an elongated body and a tall dorsal fin. The base color is bright yellow, sometimes with bluish reflections on the fins. Males are slightly larger and more colorful. It lives in hierarchical groups and defends a territory around a cave. Reproduction is cooperative: adults help raise the young. It is a hardy and adaptable species, ideal for beginners in Tanganyika cichlids.

Care notes

Temperature 24-27°C, pH 7.5-8.5, GH 8-15, KH 8-12. A minimum 100-liter tank for a small group. Omnivorous diet: flakes, pellets, brine shrimp, bloodworms. Compatible with other Tanganyika cichlids of similar size, but avoid overly aggressive species. Provide rocks and caves to create territories. Weekly water changes of 20%. Nitrates < 20 mg/L, phosphates < 0.5 mg/L.
