It is a peaceful and nocturnal species that hides in caves or under wood. It feeds mainly on wood and vegetables. It is less common in the hobby than other Panaque. Its maintenance is similar to other species of the genus.

Care notes

A tank of at least 250 liters is recommended for an adult. Water should be soft to moderately hard (GH 2-10), acidic to neutral (pH 6.0-7.5) and at a temperature of 24-28°C. Driftwood is essential in the diet. Supplement with blanched vegetables and herbivore pellets. Nitrates should be kept below 20 mg/L. Efficient filtration and regular water changes are necessary. This species is compatible with peaceful medium to large fish. Avoid very small or aggressive species.
