Care notes

Keep an aquarium of at least 200 liters with a fine sand substrate to allow sifting. Ideal temperature is 24–28°C, pH 6.0–7.5, GH 2–10. Efficient filtration is required as this fish produces a lot of waste. Feed a varied diet: sinking pellets, bloodworms, brine shrimp, and blanched vegetables. It is compatible with other peaceful cichlids and medium-sized schooling fish. Avoid aggressive or very small species. Weekly water changes of 30% are recommended. Breeding is possible with a bonded pair, on a flat stone or in a sand depression.
