Tiger loach
Syncrossus helodes
The body is elongated and robust, with a beige to yellow coloration adorned with wide black vertical bands reminiscent of a tiger's coat. The fins are often edged with red. The head is pointed with well-developed barbels. This species is territorial and may show intraspecific aggression if the group is too small. It is very active and constantly explores the substrate. In a sufficiently large group (6+), the hierarchy stabilizes. It can produce audible clicks. Adult size reaches 25 cm and lifespan 12 years.

Care
Care notes
A minimum 300-liter aquarium is required for a group of 5-7 individuals. The substrate should be fine (sand) to avoid injuring the barbels. Filtration must be powerful but with moderate flow. Ideal temperature is 24-28°C, pH 6.0-7.5, hardness 5-12 dGH. Diet is omnivorous: worms, crustaceans, dry foods. Numerous hiding places (rocks, roots, pots) are essential to reduce stress. Avoid very small or shy fish. Weekly water changes of 25-30% are recommended. Good oxygenation is important.
