Taxiphyllum alternans is an aquatic moss of the Hypnaceae family, very close to Taxiphyllum barbieri. Its stems are finer and its leaves are alternately arranged, giving it a more sparse appearance. It grows slowly and forms less dense clumps. It attaches easily to surfaces. It is used in aquascaping for natural effects. It provides good shelter for microfauna. It tolerates the same parameters as Java moss.

Care notes

Care is identical to Java moss. Low to moderate light, temperature 20–28 °C, pH 5.0–8.0. No CO2 needed. Moderate flow is acceptable. It can be attached to rocks or wood. Light trimming helps control its shape. It is very hardy and suitable for beginners. Compatible with shrimp and peaceful fish.
