Descripción

Apistogramma eremnopyge reaches 5-6 cm. The male has an iridescent blue body with green highlights, a tall dorsal fin, and a contrasting black tail. The female is smaller, pale yellow with a black lateral stripe and a less marked tail. It is a benthic species that lives near the substrate. It is territorial during breeding but remains compatible with other small peaceful cichlids. The female lays eggs in a cave and cares for them alone.

Aquarium of at least 60 L, with acidic water (pH 5.0-6.5) and very soft (GH 1-4). Temperature 24-28°C. Gentle filtration, low flow. Small live or frozen food. Provide hiding places (roots, pots, oak leaves). Compatible with tetras and small catfish. Avoid aggressive species. Breeding possible in pairs or harems.
