Descripción

The Maleri Peacock is a geographical variant of Aulonocara stuartgranti. Adult males display a bright electric blue body with a vivid yellow dorsal fin and orange highlights on the face. Females are grey-brown with vertical bars. This species reaches about 12 cm. It is relatively peaceful compared to mbunas, but males can be territorial during breeding. Its diet is mainly carnivorous, feeding on small invertebrates in the wild. In aquaria, it accepts pellets and frozen foods. Breeding is possible in a species tank, with the female mouthbrooding the eggs.

Notas de cuidado

Keep in an aquarium of at least 200 liters with pH 7.5-8.5, GH 10-20, KH 8-12. Ideal temperature 24-28°C. A rocky setup with hiding places and a sand substrate is recommended. Peaceful species, compatible with other non-aggressive Malawi cichlids. Avoid overly active or very small tankmates. Feed with quality pellets, brine shrimp, and bloodworms. Perform weekly water changes of 20-30%. Nitrates should not exceed 20 mg/L, phosphates 0.5 mg/L. Breeding is possible in a species tank with one male and several females.
