Descripción

Betta imbellis grows 5-6 cm. Males have shorter fins than Betta splendens, but metallic blue-green colors. Females are duller. It is a labyrinth fish, less territorial than its cousin. It can be kept in pairs or small groups in a specific tank. It is shyer and appreciates hiding spots. Breeding is similar with a bubble nest.

This betta lives in blackwaters of peat swamps and flooded forests. The water is very acidic, soft, rich in tannins. Vegetation is abundant.

A minimum 40-liter aquarium for a pair. Temperature 26-30°C, pH 5.0-6.5, very low hardness. A setup with roots, catappa leaves, and shade plants is essential. Carnivorous diet. Compatible with other small peaceful blackwater fish (rasboras, small corydoras). Avoid aggressive species. Breeding is possible in a specific tank with soft acidic water.
