Bolbitis heteroclita has pinnate, light green fronds with narrow segments. The creeping rhizomes anchor on hard surfaces. This fern can reach 30 cm in height. It prefers low to moderate light and soft to slightly acidic water. In aquariums, it is often used as a background or midground plant. It produces spores on the underside of fronds. Its growth is slow but steady. It does not require CO2 but benefits from it.

Temperature 20-28°C, pH 6-7.5, GH 2-12, KH 1-5. Low to moderate light, avoid intense light which promotes algae. CO2 optional. Plant by attaching the rhizome to a rock or wood. Do not bury the rhizome. Liquid fertilizer recommended. Minimum tank size 30 liters. Compatible with peaceful fish and shrimp. Sensitive to sudden parameter changes. Prune damaged fronds to stimulate growth.
