Nothobranchius furzeri is an annual killifish famous for its rapid growth and short lifespan, used in aging research.
Descripción
Males reach 5–7 cm and display a bright blue body with red spots, a red caudal fin, and blue dorsal and anal fins edged in red. Females are brown-gray. This is an annual species: eggs resist drought. In the aquarium, it prefers very soft, acidic water, temperature 25–30°C. It is very active and colorful, but males are aggressive with each other. Reproduction requires a peat substrate and dry incubation of 4–8 months.

Parameters: pH 6.0–6.8, GH 2–5, KH 1–2, temperature 25–30°C. Minimum 50 liters for a pair. Diet: brine shrimp, daphnia, bloodworms, mosquito larvae. Gentle filtration, moderate lighting. Floating plants and hiding spots. Nitrates max 15 mg/L. Weekly 20% water changes. Very sensitive to water quality. Compatible only with other annual killifish or in a species tank. Beware of jumping: cover the tank.
