This fish is peaceful and active. It enjoys planted tanks with open areas. It tolerates a wide range of salinity. It is a prolific livebearer.

A minimum 80 L tank is recommended. Water can be soft to hard (GH 10-25, KH 10-20), pH 7.0-8.5, temperature 24-28°C. Adding salt (1-2 teaspoons per 10 L) is beneficial. Efficient filtration is needed. Feed flakes, algae and live foods. Keep a group of 4-6 individuals. Avoid aggressive fish. Perform 25% weekly water changes.
