Pseudotropheus zebra is one of the best-known mbunas, characterized by its vertical stripes. It is endemic to Lake Malawi and widespread in the aquarium trade.
Descripción
Adult males reach 12–15 cm and display blue and black stripes, while females are often brown-yellow. Their body is robust and mouth downward-facing. They are highly territorial and aggressive, especially among males. They live in groups in rocky areas. Reproduction is by maternal mouthbrooding. Several color varieties exist (e.g., 'red zebra').

Temperature 24–28°C, pH 7.5–8.5, GH 10–20. A minimum 200-liter tank is needed for a group. Herbivorous diet (spirulina, vegetables). Avoid very small or peaceful fish. Provide many rocks and hiding places. Change 20% water weekly. Strong filtration. Compatible with other mbunas of similar size.
