Descrição

This fish has an oval body, chocolate brown to blackish, with a white-edged caudal fin. It can reach 25 cm. Juveniles mimic dwarf angelfish (Centropyge) for protection. It is generally peaceful but can become territorial. It grazes on algae on hard substrates. In the aquarium, it is active and requires good water flow. Its color may fade if water quality is poor.

Minimum 300-liter tank. Temperature 24-28°C, pH 8.1-8.4, salinity 1.020-1.025. Herbivorous diet: algae, nori, spirulina. It may occasionally accept meaty foods but prefer vegetables. Compatible with most reef fish, but avoid conspecifics. A protein skimmer is necessary. Nitrates <20 mg/L, phosphates <0.1 mg/L. Moderate to strong current. It needs live rock for grazing. Be aware of skin diseases under stress.
