Black-tailed dwarf cichlid

Apistogramma eremnopyge reaches 5-6 cm. The male has an iridescent blue body with green highlights, a tall dorsal fin, and a contrasting black tail. The female is smaller, pale yellow with a black lateral stripe and a less marked tail. It is a benthic species that lives near the substrate. It is territorial during breeding but remains compatible with other small peaceful cichlids. The female lays eggs in a cave and cares for them alone.
