Descrição

It reaches about 5 cm. The head is red, the body silvery, and the caudal fin has black and white bands. A very active schooling fish. Sensitive to water quality: polluted water causes the red to fade. Peaceful and ideal in a school.

The rummy-nose tetra inhabits clear, acidic waters of the Rio Negro and its tributaries. It prefers calm areas with dense vegetation and a leaf-litter bottom.
