Descrição
Elongated body flattened ventrally, with a sucker mouth. The coloration consists of highly contrasting black and white bands or spots. Nocturnal species that spends the day hidden in caves or under roots. Territorial towards conspecifics but compatible with other peaceful fish. Males develop longer odontodes on the opercles. Breeding is possible in aquariums with suitable caves.

Temperature 26-30°C, pH 6.0-7.5, GH 2-12, KH 2-8. Minimum tank volume 80 liters. Omnivorous with herbivorous tendencies: algae wafers, blanched vegetables, protein supplements. Enjoys moderate current and well-oxygenated water. Requires hiding places (caves, driftwood). Sensitive to high nitrates (max 20 mg/L). Compatible with peaceful fish of similar size. Avoid aggressive or highly territorial species.
