The Pygmy Gourami is one of the smallest labyrinth fish, very peaceful and suitable for nano aquariums. It is valued for its discreet nature and schooling behavior.

This fish reaches only 3–4 cm in adulthood. Its body is elongated with a light brown-green coloration and dark spots. Fins are translucent with bluish reflections in males. It has a labyrinth organ but remains very dependent on water quality. It is a shy, schooling fish that must live in groups of at least 6. It breeds by building a small bubble nest. Fry are tiny and require very fine food. It is sensitive to water parameters.

A minimum 30-liter tank is recommended for a group. Ideal temperature 24–28°C, pH 6.0–7.5, GH 5–15. Diet should consist of micro-particles: brine shrimp, daphnia, micro-pellets. This fish is very peaceful and can coexist with other small species like rasboras or dwarf corydoras. Dense planting and hiding spots are essential. Keep in groups of 6 or more. Regular water changes and good filtration are needed. Avoid larger or aggressive fish.
