The Achilles tang is a surgeonfish with a black body, a bright orange patch at the base of the caudal fin, and a highly developed caudal spine.
Description
This fish reaches 25 cm in length. Its body is oval and compressed, velvety black. A bright orange teardrop-shaped patch adorns the base of the caudal fin, and an orange band edged in white appears on the dorsal fin. The caudal spine is particularly long and sharp. It is a herbivore that feeds on algae. It is very active and requires strong water flow. It is territorial and aggressive towards other surgeonfish. In an aquarium, it requires a large volume and highly oxygenated water.

Care notes
A minimum tank size of 500 liters is essential. Temperature 24-28 °C, pH 8.1-8.4. The diet must be rich in algae (nori, spirulina) and vegetables. Strong water flow is necessary to mimic its natural habitat. It is sensitive to ich and stress. Avoid keeping it with other surgeonfish. It can coexist with robust, active fish. Captive breeding is unknown.
