Small silvery hatchetfish with a dark spot on the flank, very similar to Carnegiella myersi.
Description
Scherer's hatchetfish reaches about 2.5 to 3 cm. Its body is laterally compressed with a sharp belly. It is silvery with a distinct dark spot on the flank, sometimes a line. Its pectoral fins are large. It is a gregarious and peaceful fish that lives in schools. It is very active at the surface. In the aquarium, it requires a lid. It feeds on insects and small crustaceans. It is often confused with Carnegiella myersi.

Care notes
Temperature 24 to 28°C, pH 6.0 to 7.0, soft GH (2-8°d). A tank of at least 40 liters is recommended for a group of 6 to 8 individuals. Diet is insectivorous: microworms, brine shrimp, fruit flies, and fine flakes. Filtration should be gentle. Subdued lighting and floating plants are ideal. A lid is mandatory. Avoid large fish. Breeding is rare in captivity, requiring very soft and acidic water.
