Julidochromis dickfeldi is a small cichlid from Lake Tanganyika, appreciated for its geometric patterns and interesting behavior. It is relatively easy to keep in a species-specific aquarium.
Description
This fish has an elongated, cylindrical body with a cream or pale yellow base color crossed by three longitudinal black stripes. The dorsal fin is edged with blue and red. The eyes are large and expressive. Males are slightly larger and more colorful. It is a monogamous species that forms stable pairs. It is territorial but less aggressive than Tropheus. It feeds on small benthic invertebrates. Spawning occurs in caves or crevices, and parents guard the eggs and fry.

Care notes
Ideal temperature between 24–26°C, pH 7.8–8.5, GH 8–15, and KH 6–10. A minimum tank of 100 liters is suitable for a pair or small group. Diet should be carnivorous: brine shrimp, daphnia, bloodworms, carnivore cichlid pellets. Regular water changes of 20% per week are recommended. Filtration should be efficient but without too strong a current. Decor should include stacked rocks forming caves. Compatible with other Julidochromis or peaceful Tanganyikan cichlids. Avoid overly active or aggressive fish.
