Julidochromis regani is an elongated cichlid from Lake Tanganyika, characterized by its vertical stripes and pair-bonding behavior. It is hardy and suited for hard water aquariums.

Description
This fish can reach 12 cm and has a cylindrical body. Its base color is beige to light gray, with 5 to 7 dark vertical bars. The fins are often bluish with red spots. Males are larger and have longer fins. It is a monogamous species that defends a territory around a cave. It feeds on small invertebrates and plankton. Spawning occurs in a cavity, with parents guarding the eggs. In aquariums, it can be kept as a pair or in a small group.

Parameters: 24–26°C, pH 7.8–8.5, GH 8–15, KH 6–10. A minimum tank of 120 liters for a pair. Carnivorous diet: brine shrimp, daphnia, pellets. Weekly water changes of 20%. Moderate filtration. Rocky decor with caves. Compatible with other Julidochromis or peaceful cichlids. Avoid overly aggressive fish. Breeding is possible in aquariums with stable conditions.
