Large anemone with long, slender tentacles, often hosting clownfish. Requires a mature and stable aquarium.
Description
Macrodactyla doreensis has an oral disc up to 30 cm in diameter, with long, tapering tentacles often brown, green or purple. It buries its base in the sand, leaving only tentacles exposed. It is a solitary species that can be aggressive toward other anemones. It readily hosts clownfish of the genus Amphiprion. Its sting is moderately irritating to humans. In aquaria, it requires very clean water and moderate to high lighting.

Care notes
Maintain temperature between 24-28°C, pH 8.1-8.4, salinity 1.023-1.025. Moderate to high lighting (LED or T5) is required. Water flow should be moderate. A minimum tank volume of 200 L is recommended. Feed 1-2 times per week with pieces of fish, shrimp or mysis. Avoid large parameter swings. It is sensitive to high nitrates (max 10 ppm). Once settled, do not move it. Compatible with clownfish and peaceful fish.
