Spongy Montipora forms thick, porous encrustations resembling a sponge. It is very hardy and suitable for beginners.

Description
This encrusting coral has a spongy texture, often brown, green or purple. Polyps are tiny and scattered. It colonizes shaded reef areas. Growth is slow but steady. It can cover large rock surfaces. It is very tolerant of fluctuating parameters. Ideal for beginner reef tanks.

Temperature 24-28°C, pH 8.1-8.4, salinity 1.023-1.025. Calcium 400-450 ppm, magnesium 1250-1350 ppm. Low to moderate lighting. Low to moderate flow. Feed with phytoplankton. Minimum tank volume 50 L. Nitrates <30 ppm, phosphates <0.2 ppm. Compatible with all corals. Fragmentation by cutting.
