The Virgin Nerite is a small freshwater snail very popular in aquariums for its algae-cleaning ability.
Description
Neritina virginea has a globular shell of 1-2 cm, variable color (black, brown, green) with dot or stripe patterns. The body is dark gray. It is an active snail that moves on hard surfaces. It feeds mainly on algae and biofilm. It does not reproduce in freshwater, as its larvae require brackish water. It is an excellent cleaner for planted tanks. It is peaceful and compatible with most fish and shrimp.

Care notes
Water parameters: pH 7.0-8.0, temperature 22-28°C, GH 6-12, KH 3-8. A minimum tank size of 20 liters is suitable. Sensitive to nitrates (max 30 ppm) and phosphates (max 1 ppm). Good oxygenation is recommended. Diet should include natural algae, algae wafers, and blanched vegetables. It can coexist with peaceful fish and other snails. Avoid snail-eating fish (botias, etc.). It does not require a group, but multiple individuals are beneficial. Reproduction does not occur in freshwater.
