Threatened annual killifish endemic to Tanzania, with brilliant colors. Its aquarium care is delicate and requires stable parameters.
Description
Nothobranchius korthausae reaches about 5 cm. Males display a bright red pattern on a metallic blue background, with yellow fins. Females are brownish and smaller. The body is fusiform, adapted for fast movement in shallow waters. It has a large upturned mouth, typical of surface feeders. This killifish is active and curious, but males are highly territorial. Its reproduction is annual: eggs undergo obligatory diapause. It is considered endangered in its natural habitat.

Care notes
Ideal temperature: 22–26 °C, pH 6.0–7.0, GH 2–10, KH 1–5. A 20-liter tank is suitable for a pair. Water must be very soft and acidic. Feed exclusively with live prey (brine shrimp, daphnia, mosquito larvae). Males must not be kept together. A lid is mandatory. Use a gentle filter and floating plants. Eggs should be collected on peat and incubated in air for 3–6 months before rehydration.
